5 Holidays that are Both Luxurious and Child Friendly

Post by Rob Grasso

When you have a family, there is lots more to consider than there used to be when planning a holiday.  Before you most likely only had to think about you, or you and your partner – but now there are little ones to entertain.  As such, you may be on the lookout for a destination that has a little bit of luxury for you – and has lots of activities for the kids to enjoy.  We’ve put together a list of some destinations you might want to try out below.

Mykonos, Greece

Mykonos is an incredibly popular destination in Greece.  It is renowned for being on the upmarket side of things – which is perfect if you are looking for something special.  There are beautiful beaches where the kids can play in the sea, and if feeling brave enough can enjoy watersports.  Depending on the age of the children you are taking on holiday – you also might want to take in a bit of sightseeing.  There is some great architecture to enjoy, and even has an area called “Little Venice” where there are gorgeous colourful balconies just like you would find if you are in Italy.  If shopping is on the to-do list – there is a renowned street “Matoyanni Street” – that also has a little bit of luxury with designer brands.  In terms of eating out and enjoying some authentic food – that can also be found there too.  Although Mykonos is on the luxurious side of things, it doesn’t mean it has to be overly expensive.  You can find great deals on hotels – or it might even be more cost-effective to hire out a Mykonos villa if you have a larger family.

The Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve is one of the most popular destinations in Europe – and can be the perfect luxury holiday destination for families.  It has a beautiful coastline which is fantastic for those of you looking for a beach resort type vacation – and is hot during the summer, and still mild during winter which means it can still be enjoyable off-peak.  Faro is the place to go if you are looking for something on the busier side of things (it has around 50,000 people that live there) – and The Old town is great if you want to go for a bit of sightseeing.  It was damaged during an earthquake in 1755, and what you will see is mostly from the 18th and 19th century.  It has gorgeous cobblestone streets – and you can visit the famous cathedral.  There are also museums to visit if you fancy a break from the heat.  If you want something picturesque – then Tavira is the place to go as one of the regions prettiest towns.  There are markets where you can purchase fresh fruit and veg, palm lined gardens – and there is even the opportunity for you to go camping there if you would like.

Walt Disney World, Orlando

This destination is one that needs no introduction.  If you are a fan of Disney, then you will need to at some point or another visit its home.  This is definitely a holiday that you’d consider on a bigger budget – as the costs for the parks can add up.  Some of these great theme parks include Magic Kingdom which is usually regarded as the epicenter of Walt Disney World where you will find parades, the infamous castle, Magic Mountain and much more. Other fantastic attractions include Epcot where you can go to different areas in the park and see different areas of the world – or there’s the Animal Kingdom.  As well as encountering some amazing animals here, you can also take part in awesome thrill rides or shows.  If you are a movie buff – then Disney’s Hollywood studios will be right up your street as a movie themed park with shows and rides – or there is Universal Studios too.  One thing for sure is that you will never run out of things to do when you are in Disney World, Orlando.

Majorca

Majorca has been popular with holidaymakers for over 50 years.  It has everything you need for a family holiday, and you can definitely add your element of luxury with some of the fantastic hotels they have to offer.  There is a mixture of resorts to suit all kinds of families.  If you want something a little on the relaxed side, you might opt for Alcudia or Cala Bona, or you could go for something a bit busier like Palma Nova.  Here you will find everything from a tropical themed mini-golf course to waterparks to entertain the children.  Usually if you go on a resort style holiday like this – there are lots of kids clubs and activities during the day at the hotel which means there will always be something for them to do. It also might give you a chance to relax and enjoy the sun.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria isn’t what people normally associate with a holiday hotspot for families – but is one that’s definitely becoming more popular for luxury holidays and is full of surprises.  Although luxurious – it’s probably the cheapest on the list, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t lots to do or plenty to enjoy.  If you are a sporty kind of family, then you will be happy to know that it’s a top skiing destination which not everyone knows about.  You can do other adventurous things such as go on safari or birding tours or indulge in water sports.  There are lots of hiking trails too if you fancy getting some more exercise in the sun.  It of course isn’t missing what everyone loves on a family holiday which is beautiful beaches when you want to soak in some sun, sea and sand.  It is definitely a one size fits all type of holiday.

If you are in the process of planning a luxury family trip – then make sure you check out some of the destinations we have mentioned above for the ultimate time.
